Atlum Schema (UK Based, Ambient-Indie Music Artist, Andy Mort)

Atlum Schema is the solo project of UK based ambient-indie music artist and writer, Andy Mort. His music has been compared to Peter Gabriel by New Sound Wales, he’s been called a ‘writer of gorgeous, epic songs (and) a MAJOR new talent’ by Tom Robinson, and described as sounding like a ‘manic depressive touching that kind of unknown heavenly geometry in the middle of the night most of us songwriters can only dream of’ by Iain from Kid Adrift.

Year 0 is the full-length follow up to One World Less, a four-part conceptual LP that was released in conjunction with novella, The Prisoner in 2011.

Andy has spent the past two and a half years developing new perspectives on the fragile nature of human existence, helping care for a friend who was tragically diagnosed with a rapidly debilitating and imprisoning form of Lewy Body Dementia in 2011. During this time he took an inadvertent step away from writing and performing music. All the while a new project was subconsciously bubbling and taking form. During this time Andy built a successful blog and podcast (Sheep Dressed Like Wolves), the ever-growing audience support from which has given Year 0 an opportunity and platform to be released.

The album came together over just two weeks in the summer of 2013. It confronts themes of loss, the frailty of the human body, the potential strength of human spirit and the absurd attention and importance we collectively give to futile things. Initially intended as a stripped back, acoustic record, it grew through the recording process into an ambient spirited, reflective, electronic exploration of the human condition. It is about discovering within the past the inescapable clues to the mysteries of the future, and that every passing moment is a new opportunity to change things.
