Golden Legends Review by Andy Kellman
Give the St. Clair label some credit, maybe, for informing consumers that Golden Legends -- like so many of their other releases -- consists of re-recordings instead of original versions. Even so, there's no getting past the substandard quality of these versions of "Love T.K.O.," "Close the Door," "Only You," "The Whole Town's Laughing at Me," and six others, presumably recorded late in Pendergrass' career with a competent but inferior backing band. There's also the matter of St. Clair recycling this material across several releases, including Timeless Classics and Love T.K.O. When it comes to small-scale TP anthologies, stick to releases that bear the Sony logo.
