Composed in 1995 for the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, 1996. Dedicated to Tim Morrison, principal trumpeteer of the Boston Symphony.
Premiered on July 19, 1996 during the opening ceremony in Atlanta (John Williams/Atlanta Symphony) – Previously performed for the press in early 1996 in London (John Williams/Pro Arte Orchestra)
